Our Story

Silicon Mountain Memory, Inc., based in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder Colorado, is a leading direct supplier of complete IT hardware solutions for businesses of all sizes, government and educational organizations and consumers. Silicon Mountain Memory offers a complete line of memory upgrades, servers, file storage systems, gaming PCs, high-end workstations, flash memory products, and more.

But Silicon Mountain Memory is about more than just providing top-quality IT products—that’s where our commitment starts. Silicon Mountain Memory began small with customer-focused, community-based ambitions and though we’ve grown significantly, we’ve never lost sight of our original values: people, focus, perseverance, grace, innovation, and excellence. Our commitment to our customers, team members, and community guides every decision we make.

The Making of Silicon Mountain Memory

Silicon Mountain Memory began in 1997 as the brainchild of three Boulder-based entrepreneurs with a passion for all things high-tech and a commitment to creating a life-changing community for team members, partners, and the community. With seed capital raised primarily from friends and family, Silicon Mountain set up shop in a 500 square-foot space on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall offering wholesale computer memory products with a focus on low prices and quality service.

By 2000, the Company expanded with over a dozen employees and a new 2,000 square-foot space to accommodate its growing team. It was soon apparent however, that relying on other manufacturers was taking a toll on the Company’s steadfast commitment to quality. After evaluating the Company’s position, the decision was made to solidify its strategy and focus in the memory upgrade market by going direct. To that end, the Company established testing facilities in-house allowing for strict quality control and a lifetime warranty was introduced on all RAM products. This commitment to quality and customer care served Silicon Mountain Memory well and by the end of the 2001, despite the troubles facing the technology industry, Silicon Mountain sales were up and the future looked bright.

In 2004, with record-high sales and a growing team, Silicon Mountain turned its focus toward aggressive expansion. In February, the Company bought the assets of its largest competitor, more than doubled its workforce and moved its base of operations to a 21,000 square-foot facility.

By 2005, Silicon Mountain had gained a solid reputation with its customers and the media. That year, Silicon Mountain was recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the country.

Building on its reputation for delivering high-quality products and service, in 2006 Silicon Mountain acquired system-building experts, Vision Computers, Inc. (VCI). A Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, VCI has been building computers using only name-brand components for over 12 years. With the acquisition of VCI, Silicon Mountain expanded its product line to offer fully-integrated, branded systems including servers, storage systems, and high-end workstations. Silicon Mountain now offers its customers direct access to the same high-quality systems used by VCI’s extensive list of satisfied customers, including Lockheed Martin and NASA.

Now boasting record revenue growth, a complete IT product line, and over 80 team members in three locations, Silicon Mountain is a leading technology supplier to businesses of all sizes, counting many of the biggest Fortune 500 companies among its clients. But despite its growth, the company remains committed to its core values and whether you’re purchasing a single memory upgrade for your home computer, or 20 servers for your company, Silicon Mountain values your business and promises to deliver the best systems and components with the highest level of service.
